Sicilian Nights Art Show

The Second Annual Bella Unica art show and party, aptly named SICILIAN NIGHTS  was held on October 21st in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Natalie Velez, the founder and creative force behind Bella Unica Art Gallery, transformed the social rooms at Vinoy Place into a romantic and magical place where guests could wander among the works of 9 of Tampa Bay’s best artists. Natalie has built an enclave of some of the brightest art stars including Rose Marie Prins, Gina White, Linda Roberts, Laura Albright, Matt Albright, Wilmar Pablon, Ryan McGhee and herself.  I am proud to be one of the nine.

Bella Unica Art Show

There were works in oil, acrylic, and mixed media. There were large pieces and small pieces, prints, handcrafted jewelry and fabulous wearable art.

Art lovers feasted on huge loaves of Sicilian bread, broken into pieces in an authentic way. There were olives and cherry tomatoes with mozzarella, and olive oil for dipping as well as bowls of fruit and plates of Italian cookies. Wonderful arrangements of lemons made guests feel like they were in Sicily as they sipped their wine and explored the rooms of art.

I was delighted to be chosen as one of Natalie’s Bella Unica artists to be featured that evening.   Most of the artists dropped off their work to let Natalie work her magic. I watched as she transformed the rooms in front of my eyes.  To me, the most amazing accomplishment is how she made the art flow from room to room no matter what the medium was.

I was thrilled to have space by the fireplace to show my mixed media pieces. I loved having some on the floor, some on the mantel and some on easels. I showed a few of my latest pieces, “Chair”, “Arizona”, “Conflicted” and “Opera” as well as some older works like  “Mike”  which is a collage of Michelangelo’s work in a heavy antique hobnail frame that I felt suited the Sicilian theme.  It was an elegant evening which was topped off with fireworks in the park that we could see from our Sicilian Nights party.

It was a perfect ending!
